The Quest for Less Begins

Last month my husband and I made a very important decision.  We decided to split up the money into two bank accounts, fixed and disposable income.  We decided that he would be in charge of the fixed income and I would be in charge of the disposable income.  This is the first time in my life I have truly been in charge of my spending money and asked to prepare a budget.  I am hoping that I will do a great job and save a lot of money for the family.  The bank account that I have has no protection on it, so when it runs out it runs out.  I have not always been the best with money, so we are using this as an experiment to see what wonders I can do.

After a month it seems the experiment is working well.  It was a weird month, but then again what month isn't.  I have scoured grocery ads and printed coupons.  I have saved a lot of money each trip to the store and hope to only increase our savings.  The goal is for me to be able to stay at home with our children, homeschool, and enjoy the lifestyle we would like.  It's a big task, but I feel that I can handle the challenge.

Our ultimate goals including moving into a nice older home, going back to Disney World (we went last week!), and take a Disney Cruise.  I'm hoping that this blog keeps me inspired and if it inspires a few other people that would be great.  The first goal I have is to buy homeschool curriculum for my girls ages 3 and 4 for the upcoming school year.  I currently have subscriptions to abcmouse.com and readingeggs.com (I'll review these in the upcoming weeks) for my girls, but I would like to supplement their preschool learning with some solid curriculum as well.  I would like to buy the Horizons Preschool for Three Curriculum Set for $73.95 and the Memoria Press Kindergarten curriculum for $330.00.  I am hoping by the end of October I will be able to buy these items for my girls.

I know I sound a little like a brat telling you all of the stuff that I want, but I'm trying to save this money out of my budget of $1,200 a month in disposable income.  In the past my family could easily spend $1,200 a month in groceries!  I am putting that to a stop.  I will not have my family eat poorly on this experiment either.  I am on a quest to lose over 100 pounds with Weight Watchers as well.  I will also be packing a healthy lunch for my daughters to take to school three days a week or more.  They will eat at school the other days.
I will chronicle what my family buys and how we are saving money toward our goals. I will also include homeschool reviews, weight loss recipes and stories, as well as any other antics I might be up to.  I know this will be a fun journey and will be successful in the end.
